Bonita, California, resident Mario X. Sierra originally began his career in 1987 with General Acoustics after graduating from the University of California, San Diego. After a brief stint with Fordham General Engineering Contractors as a project engineer, he went to work for the City of San Diego, where he had a prestigious career that spanned over three decades. During his time employed with the city, Mario Sierra filled four different directorial positions, a feat unmatched by any other City of San Diego employee.
In 2007, Mr. Sierra served as one of the City’s incident commanders at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium during that year’s devastating firestorm. Additionally, he spent several years as one of the city’s emergency operations director. The departments he directed included general services, transportation & storm water, information technology and environmental services.
He is also the recipient of various awards from the City of San Diego, including Project Manager of the Year and Building Project of the Year for the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitors Center.. After spending nearly 31 years in public service, Mario X. Sierra is now looking forward to his next endeavor.
